Happy National Lipstick Day

Red lipstick is to the beauty industry what a black dress is to the fashion industry: a classic that you can not miss.

Red lipstick has been a color used by women from all times. Besides being a color that draws attention, it is a color that makes us feel more attractive.

People like red lipstick because it is a classic and timeless look and is wearable any season of the year and never goes out of style.

Red lipstick is related to positive energy, passion, warmness, and strength, but most important of all it makes women feel more confident.

As an artist I like to apply red lipstick because it makes a feminine statement. It makes a women unforgettable when making an entrance and goes with any look. You can never go wrong with a red lip, but it is definitely a color for the glamorous and bold.

PICK THE RIGHT SHADE FOR YOU:

We must analyze two things: tone and temperature of your skin:

Light skin with a cool undertone: Bright red & watermelon red.

Light skin with warm undertone: Tomato red & carmine red.

Medium skin: from red to oranges tones & pink tones

Dark skin with a cool undertone: Dark red almost like wine & Red cherry tones.

Dark skin with warm tone: Brick red.

The right shade of red lipstick will enhance and lighten up a look.

Light skin and red lips is one of the most seductive combinations. A red with blue undertones or a deep red will enhance the skin tone and create a nice contrast.

For medium skin tones there is a wide range to choose from that will fit to perfection. From red with orange tones to red with pinks they will create a fabulous effect on the complexion.

Dark skin favors from red cherry tones which brings out their skin tone. Red with purple undertones and blue gleams are also flattering for dark skin.

TIPS FOR APPLYING RED LIPSTICK:

When applying a red lipstick it is important to prepare the lips for a long lasting result and prevent the lipstick from smearing.

Lips need to be exfoliated to remove dryness and have a smooth application.

Apply concealer or foundation on top of the lips then set with powder. Use a liner in the same shade of red to line and shape the lips. For a more precise application use a lip brush to apply your lipstick.  Define the edges with the lip pencil and sharp the edges with a small brush and your foundation.

It is important to experiment and select a red according to the dress and event.

A CLASSIC RED:

My favorite red is a must have for all beauty lovers. Ruby Woo by Mac is an iconic red. It is the number one selling Mac lipstick. It’s vibrant shade with blue undertone makes it the perfect shade for any skin tone. It has a matte texture that allows it to be very long lasting.

WHY WEAR RED LIPSTICK:

Red lipstick is a tool that can transform our self esteem. Women feel strong, glamorous, seductive, and passional. It brings out our best features and gives a touch of elegance.

 EXTRA TIPS:

*Follow the rule "eye nothing + mouth all", so you are not in danger doing too much!

*Some eye suggestions to accompany the red lipstick: outlined kitten + lashes or outlined kitten + lashes + opaque light brown eyeshadow

*Avoid using pink blush, leave the focus on the lips, use a bronzer or a peach blush to apply on the apples

*Exfoliation is a great secret for eliminating dead skin and making your lips softer.

*Always moisturize your lips with a lip balm before applying the lipstick, if the lipstick smears, fix it with concealer!

*Never use cotton swab with makeup remover as you can remove the layer of all products already applied by making a “hole” in the makeup that will be stained if you apply foundation / concealer again.

*If your teeth are yellowish, avoid using red lipstick, as the warm color of the lipstick will leave them with the strongest yellow.

*Matte and opaque lipsticks are more difficult to apply, if you don't care about the texture but the color of the lipstick, apply a droplet of gloss to make it easier to apply the lipstick.

*For better durability and opaque texture you can apply translucent powder over the lipstick.

*A very nice product that I used to fix the lipstick is the LIP PRIMER POTION by URBAN DECAY.
